Job Description

On behalf of our Tier 1 injection moulding client, we are currently recruiting an experienced Product Designer to join their team.

NOTE:

  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally, without restrictions, effective on the start date
  • Hybrid work model offered after successful completion of probation period (3 months). 3 days in office, 2 days remote

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work within Product Development to generate new product designs using the latest tools and engineering processes
  • Continuously improve the design of current products utilizing VAVE, DOE and other related best practices
  • Participation in the design innovation process and requires the key ability to apply the design needs, the customer, suppliers, and the appropriate regulating bodies to all job tasks
  • Support the product design elements of new product development within the APQP process
  • Design support for the continuous improvement of current products.
  • Design resources during the ECR process
  • Support design innovation projects.
  • The following are tasks (including appropriate documentation) that may be required within new product design, continuous improvement and innovation projects:
    • Vehicle and/or part data procurement
    • Participate in concept design
    • System and component design including reviews
    • Procure and apply all relevant specifications
    • 3D CAD models and drawing creation/revision (NX8, CATIA5)
    • Verification and/or validation of design through tolerance analysis, engineering calculations, prototypes, fit-ups, DVP&R management, product testing, etc.
    • DFMEA's, DFM/DFA, VA/VE analysis, Material specifications, DVP&R, etc.
    • BOMs
    • Installation ease and work instructions to meet customer expectations
    • Other relevant design elements of APQP, ECRs and Innovation

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mechanical diploma / degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years Automotive Product Design/Engineer experience. Preference given to candidates with injection molding
  • Strong mechanical understanding and aptitude
  • Proficient user of core CAD products (NX, CATIA 5)
  • Ability to participate and/or lead design review, FMEA and brainstorm meetings to ensure design goals are met.
  • Ability to be a design liaison with the customer and suppliers
  • The successful Product Designer candidate must be flexible to work at any location
  • Must be willing to travel to customer locations and supply base, including occasional International travel with associated work assignments. (10% travel within Ontario, USA, and potential for overseas)
