Job Description

We are recruiting a BIW Component Engineer - Sealing (BIW Sealing Product Engineer) to join our team to support our client in the automotive industry.

NOTES:

  • Hybrid (60% onsite)
  • Must be willing and able to travel to the USA, without restrictions, effective on the start date

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineering, design, development, timing and production release of Body Sealing components, as well as quality improvements, weight reduction, cost reduction, and efficiency improvement initiatives including communicating technical product status to management along with plant support for emerging issue resolution
  • Own and manage the design, development, and production release of Body-in-White sealing/ welding and structures components/ subassemblies (built or currently being built at assembly plants) including parametric modeling using NX
  • Work with external suppliers, internal stamping plants, and vehicle plant body shop to ensure manufacturability, cost, and material performance meet project milestones and vehicle functional objectives
  • Develop and manage CBOM and quadris for subassemblies
  • Create, define and track engineering validation plans, performance standards for these components (DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA) and coordinate physical testing
  • Create Source Package technical documentation and manage technical reviews with the suppliers and internal teams
  • Provide onsite plant launch support to triage, root cause and establish corrective actions to address assembly, build variation, BSR or any other fit and finish items or launch gating issues.
  • Checking designs against best practice guidelines along with supporting dry car, corrosion, and vehicle weight initiatives
  • Ensure designs comply with internal standards, vehicle performance targets, and regulatory requirements
  • Release sealing files for all milestones on new and carry over programs along with several components (baffles, bake on mastics, plugs, and tapes)
  • Communicate project status, risks, and deliverables to stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality teams.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering; equivalent. - Technical degree with relevant experience may be considered
  • 1-2 year of design and development engineering experience, with launch and production environment, in body in White, closures, or exterior systems
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in automotive sheet metal development or related area.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Teamcenter, NX, Vis Pro) and PLM systems.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack up, and typical automotive validation testing could be in classes as well
  • Strong root causing skills for problem solving (Example: water leak and air leak (CFM) Testing)
  • Strong knowledge in materials coatings (galvanized, e-coat, multiple coatings for BIW Components, metal forming and joining techniques preferred
  • Strong root cause analysis skills for field related issues specific for water and CFM testing along with air loss testing
  • Ability to multitask different assignments
  • Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Self- motivated individuals with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Open to recent graduates with relevant projects, SAE and cooperative education.

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledgeable in the Change Management Process
  • Demonstrated capability in mitigating corrosion issues on body components
  • Strong knowledge of lab procedures and product testing.
  • Bulk sealing and adhesive materials with application experience

  • $36.00 - $39.00 / hour (depending on experience)
