Job Description

On behalf of our high performance transmission client, we are currently recruiting for an experienced Metrology Technician to join their team. The primary focus of this position is to interface with Quality, Engineering and Production to ensure inspection methods, processes, and systems/components are in accordance with customer requirements and the Quality System.


  • Programs and operates CMM, 3D Scanning and various metrology equipment and devices (i.e. CMM, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, verniers, comparators, gear profile, contracer, roundness & contamination tester machine)
  • Performs basic maintenance and calibration on inspection equipment; Collects, collates, and reports data results in required formats
  • Schedule / manage workflow through the CMM and Quality Inspection areas
  • Supports risk assessments (DFMEA), in-process inspection, and final component inspection
  • Perform CMM inspection of component Fixtures, Gauges, and Tooling as required
  • Coordinates calibrations of inspection, measuring, and test equipment with third-party accredited vendors ensuring proper handling, storage, packaging, preservation, and delivery
  • Reviews certificates of calibration and maintains records of calibrations
  • Comply with CMM program validation and gage suitability
  • Train and assist Production, Quality and Engineering personnel in the proper handling, use and care of plant measurement devices and inspection equipment
  • Perform general calibrations and preventative maintenance for quality inspection equipment
  • Approves systems and components for finished product and releasing for final shipping
  • Reports any deviations, non-conformance's, product, or in-process issues to Quality management


  • Associates of Science Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical/engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in component and systems inspection
  • Minimum of 2 years of layout inspection
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and applicable specifications
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, Power Point, Access; CALYPSO, GAGEtrak
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Working knowledge of APQP, GD&T, Control Plans, FMEA, PPAP, and familiarity with the requirements of TS and ISO17025 certification and reporting
  • Understanding of component Traceability requirements.
  • Proficiency in CMM programming and operation, dimensional metrology, measurement, inspection methods, and calibration
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, presentation
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work amongst cross-functional teams
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to sit
