Job Description

On behalf of our Food Manufacturing client we are recruiting for an experienced Plant Controller to join their team. This position functions as a business partner with plant and financial management. The client is in search of a hands-on finance manager to effectively bridge the gap between accounting, finance, operations, and engineering departments in order to appraise and influence the operational effectiveness of the company’s operation. The position reports to the CFO and the site operations manager to establish organizational control for the reporting and internal control functions, develop action plans to improve performance and lead all financial reporting.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support the business to make the best, informed, strategic and tactical decisions by drawing on high levels of analytical skills and judgment, and attention to detail
  • Participate to the establishment and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
  • Provide timely and accurate accounting and finance services while complying with all legislative and corporate requirements
  • Ensure an adequate system of internal control is maintained, general ledger accounts are correctly stated and classified, and that financial reporting is prepared in accordance with accounting principles
  • Assure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and develop accounting positions and internal controls with corporate financial management
  • Monitors monthly account reconciliations and ensure all financial transactions are recorded and reported on a timely and accurate basis
  • Prepare monthly reporting package including financial statements of operating results with variance analysis, quarterly forecasts and annual operating budget plan
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts, lead and maintain other planning and control procedures and analyze and report variances.
  • Develop, analyze, interpret and reporting of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, KPIs and other matters bearing on operating effectiveness of the plant
  • Provide all financial and non-financial analysis to management team
  • Initiate continuous improvement in production cost system and financial infrastructure and provide costing expertise for manufacturing operation
  • Work closely with manufacturing operations to ensure accurate and timely capture of all production costs and effective analysis of production variances
  • Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments
  • Ensure timely and accurate plant payroll information and labor cost reporting
  • Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Participate to production, procurement/purchasing meetings to discuss all plant issues
  • Assist with customer quotes and request for proposals
  • Create and maintain asset schedules and capitalization of assets
  • Implement Best Practices, developing more effective workflow processes and work closely and effectively with IT. Provide integrated solutions to internal customers in a timely manner
  • Assess and implement solutions for ad hoc requests and special projects
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Seven (7) years of demonstrated working knowledge of general and cost accounting, internal controls and asset management in an operational environment
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting coupled with an accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA)
  • Demonstrated ability to implement required accounting controls while simultaneously adjusting to operational business objectives
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings and deliver presentations on ideas
  • Critical thinker with proven analytical, administrative and management capabilities
  • Experience with Linux environment is an asset
  • Advance skills in MS Excel and other Information Systems (Word processing, spreadsheets, data mining)
  • Exceptional level of accuracy and quality of work
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Keep up-to-date with the newest trends and technologies, and computer skills are important in order to manage data and find efficient ways to utilize it
