On behalf of our client, heavy-machining/automation, we are currently recruiting for a Cost Estimator to join their team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review Request for Quote information to determine fabrication and machining processes and items to be quoted
- During the quoting phase on new projects, coordinate with the operations team to develop:
- Cycle time / time studies analysis (machine and operator)
- Product sequence of operations sheets (flow charts)
- System or process zone layouts
- Technical descriptions of fabrication and machining stations
- Prepare proposals and cost estimates based on format provided for customer submission
- Develop and maintain a production fabrication and machining cost estimating database, including labour hours as well as working closely with purchasing to align costs for purchased components to ensure costs reflect the current available prices in the market
- Attend customer line-up meetings when requested and prepare, conduct and/or assist in technical presentations to customers when required
- For awarded jobs, prepare job kick-off packages and meetings with relevant departments
- Communicate within a “team based” work environment and interact well with fellow employees and external customers
- Maintain a tracking system to ensure all process, product and cost changes are tracked and logged. Clearly communicate the impact of a change to the operations team
- Maintain an adherence to all proposals and estimating policies and procedures
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed Mechanical Engineering degree, or a technical College Diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 1 year of proven experience in cost estimating and writing proposals
- Ability to read and understand prints and technical data – strong must have
- Advanced level Excel skills.
- AutoCAD software experience an asset
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- $55 000 - $70 000 / year (depending on experience)
