Our Tier 2 injection molding client, is seeking knowledgeable, self-directed, experienced and hardworking individuals interested in the automotive industry as a Molding Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports to Production Manager
- Ensure all employees adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the TS 16949 Quality System
- Provide front line manufacturing, human resource, quality and systems leadership of direct reports to ensure facility is in compliance with quality and throughput expectations in a safe environment while attaining stated goals
- Ensure all personnel, including themself, conduct their duties and operate with Safety as the highest priority without exception ensuring all activities meet or exceed all compliance requirements
- Take ownership and responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the molding department
- Act as a member of the team by ensuring all actions, directives and decisions are effectively communicated with consideration and in cooperation with all other team members
- Conduct themselves in keeping with operation priority hierarchy of Safety, Quality, Delivery
- Responsible for Molding operations on all three shifts
- Backfill for Production Manager as required to cover vacations, or other periods of unavailability
- Oversee & participate in:
- Front-line operational needs such as: molds changes, repairs on molds
- Fine tune machine settings, molds to gain optimal cycle times and class A quality
- Scheduling to meet delivery requirements of our customers
- Oversee the safe and optimal utilization of all plant and equipment through proper operation and maintenance
- Confirm audits are completed as required to prevent occurrences of non-conformances
- Drive Continuous Improvement activities using Lean Manufacturing Techniques
- Manage production and maintenance staff both unionized and non-unionized, assigning duties, handling employee concerns, reviewing performance, hiring and orientation of new employees, discipline and training
- Mentor and develop Supervisor skills, ensuring all policies and procedures of the IATF Quality System are followed at all times
- Lead Safety, Environmental and 5S initiatives including but not limited to completion of daily/weekly audits, monthly safety talks and work cell layout adherence and improvements
- Participate in the preparation annual budgets, monitor performance, providing explanations for variances to budget and implement corrective action for variances
- Assume ownership of product repair and scrap costs, developing cost avoidance plans, and implementing operational improvements
- Schedule staffing requirement consistent with production needs, account for all labour hours and be responsible for variance
- Drive Standardized work adherence, monitor cycle time to standards
- Provide feedback on product and mold design reviews, advanced product quality planning (APQP) and resolve customer complaints
- Use performance measurement reports to prioritize and continually improve machine efficiencies.
- Develops improved manufacturing methods, layouts, equipment and techniques and submits recommendations for approval
- Manage the Contractor program and ensuring compliance of visitors
- Oversee and provide guidance on areas of robot programming, electrical and maintenance
- Actively develop train, mentor and discipline subordinates as required
- Environmental and Health & Safety compliance
Quality
- Ensure processes, molds, equipment are capable of and making product that meets customer expectations
- Be engaged and understand the quality requirements so that guidance, mentoring can be provided to subordinates and decisions can be made
- Work closely with the Quality team and Customers to define and understand specific part requirements
- Ensure that subordinates follow work instructions to achieve standardized work practices across all personnel on all shifts
- Ensure molding personnel are following the necessary procedures to maintain IATF 16949 requirements at all times
- Report and escalate quality issues and procedural infractions to drive countermeasures and continuous improvement
- Participate in Financial reviews of operation performance to prioritize corrective action and countermeasures to reduce scrap
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-Secondary Education in a related field preferred OR equivalent working experience
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced injection mold processing experience
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Demonstrated software experience
- Demonstrated strong communication skills-verbal and written
- Minimum 5 years hands on injection molding experience
- Automotive experience an asset
- Minimum 2 years of technical leadership-Managing trades preferred
