Job Description

Our client, a designer/manufacturer and global integrator of welding and assembly systems and material handling systems, is in search of a Technical Writer / Trainer to join their team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, analyses (DRBFM's / FMEA / PFMEA / MFMEA), vendor-supplied documentation, to determine the processes necessary to prolong the service life and minimize the downtime of all Valiant TMS supplied equipment
  • Communicate the preventive maintenance processes (supplied, or discovered through research, experience, or experimentation) using concise language, supported by simple illustrations or photographs
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and controls department to document procedures associated with each
  • Prepare all necessary visual aids required by the customer to communicate work instructions, lockout instructions, and such warnings or maintenance aids as described in the scope of work, customer specifications, or as directed by the team leader and/or project manager
  • Create original technical content to convey accurate instructions to end-users of various levels of comprehension and reading skills, using Adobe Creative Cloud, CorelDRAW, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and/or Sony Vegas
  • Generate a comprehensive record of the finished build of each project, and capture high-quality photographs of components and processes necessary to assist in technical instruction
  • Produce, professional quality technical digital publications (technical service manual) based on supplied templates, that combines original and supplied technical writing, tables, photos, illustrations, and videos
  • Design a training program to teach the customer’s employees how to safely operate, service, maintain or repair the supplied equipment
  • Travel to the customer’s facility to conduct a series of classroom and hands-on training programs for production operators, mechanical tradespeople, and electrical tradespeople

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical writing, a diploma in technical publishing, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience writing technical publications and experience as a trainer
  • Experience in a mechanical engineering office and/or manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)and Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Knowledge of CorelDRAW, Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
  • Ability to communicate effectively in print, electronic media, and in person before an audience, locally and abroad

  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally, without restrictions, effective on the start date
