Our tier 1 injection molding client is seeking an experienced, self - directed, and hard -working individual to join their team as an Assistant Production Manager at their facility located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. This position reports to the Production Manager and is the back up Production Manager and Quality Manager in their absence. The position provides front line manufacturing, human resource, quality and systems leadership of direct reports (5; 3 Supervisors, Plant Admin, Master Scheduler) to ensure facility is in compliance with quality and throughput expectations in a safe environment while attaining stated goals. The incumbent will be instrumental in the continued growth of the facility and maintaining excellent performance. RESPONSIBILITIES: Operations
Monitor and act on plant performance metrics including but not limited to schedule execution (staff to ensure production needs fulfilled and account for all hours and variances), scrap, labour costs, overtime, inventory and custom expectations
Manage all production personnel (unionized and non – unionized), assigning duties and ensuring all policies and procedures of the ISO9001:2015 AND IATF 16949 Quality System are followed at all times (handling employee concerns, reviewing performance, hiring and orientation of new employees, discipline and training)
Perform root cause problem solving techniques to identify and facilitate cost savings initiatives
Establish and maintain standardized work for all routine work.
Mentor and develop Supervisors and maintain all training and employee records are current and complete
Manage packaging inventory and requirements in an ERP system (QAD), and generate various reports for analysis
Oversee the safe and optimal utilization of all plant and equipment through proper operation (checklists are completed and conformed with) and maintenance (repair, scrap costs, and developing cost avoidance plans, and implementing operational improvements)
Safety
Monitor environment and activities daily to ensure full compliance through daily inspections, observations and enforcement
Identify and correct unsafe behaviours, Commend safe behaviors
Set and monitor safety improvement goals to reduce/eliminate workplace accidents and near misses
Employee Relations
Foster an environment that encourages teamwork, positive morale
Handle all performance issues with active listening, fair and consistent corrective action
Conduct investigations including documentation and escalation when appropriate
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Preference given to candidates from an automotive plastic injection molding facility
Degree or Diploma in a related field
Demonstrated lean and leadership training
Effective communication skills, verbal, and written
Demonstrated computer skills including MS office applications
Experience with an ERP system
