Job Description

On behalf of our civil infrastructure and operation client, we are currently recruiting for a Building Mechanical Engineer to join their team. Key responsibilities of the role will be dealing with building and mechanical related issues that arise during the design and construction phases of the P3 project. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Manager Ports of Entry, and provide contract oversight on submissions, including design and specifications, working drawings and field design changes; as well as construction documents, testing plans, commissioning plans and periodic site inspections for general conformance. The position requires someone with strong technical skills and previous experience working on a large scale, high-profile international infrastructure project

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the manager in providing review and analysis of Mechanical system submissions during the design and construction stages of the P3 project including drawing packages, request for information, reports, shop drawings and field-testing results
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the review and assessment of technical and contractual issues with respect to building mechanical systems, life safety systems, energy management/modelling, sustainability and commissioning
  • Assist in the preparation of status reports, contractual correspondence and issues tracking
  • Participate in design meetings with owning authority, Agency stakeholders, and the client’s Engineering team providing technical guidance from the Owner’s perspective, issues management, and design evaluation
  • Complete site visits during the construction phase while attending construction meetings, performing field review and assessing compliance of the installation of the building mechanical systems, as well as coordinating with the Director of Construction
  • Assist in the coordination work with other client disciplines (Roadway, Utilities, Bridges, ITS) for any building and mechanical related work. Coordinate work with other disciplines including Electrical, Architectural, Civil and Structural
  • Provide input to the client’s financial team if necessary, for any payment submissions by both the Owner’s Engineer (OE) and owning authority

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Ontario or P.E. in Michigan
  • LEED™ Certification is an asset
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with P3 model and complex projects considered to be an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in design and construction of HVAC, Fire protection, Plumbing and Building Control Systems. This includes drawing review, quality control procedures review, shop drawing review and project closeout documentation review
  • Strong knowledge of building codes (National Building Code/Ontario Building code, Michigan Building Code) and other related standards and references (ASHRAE, CSA, LEED, ASPE, NFPA, NIOSH, EPA, etc.) pertaining to building design
  • Experience and knowledge of the commissioning process and commissioning requirements of mechanical systems
  • Strong knowledge of building mechanical system construction standards and practices
  • Strong knowledge of construction site safety awareness and experience with attending site, conducting field reviews
  • Knowledge and experience of mechanical system operations and maintenance procedures, life cycle replacement and asset management are considered an asset
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Possesses strong negotiation, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally communicate orally and in writing
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit is an asset
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Personnel Screening/ Security Clearance
  • Ability to travel within Ontario and Michigan
