Job Description

On behalf of our metal stamping client we are currently recruiting for a Tool & Die Designer to join their team.

  • Review and study customer specifications, engineering schematics and other data in order to prepare layout and detail drawings of designs as required to project meet timelines. Develop creative and innovative engineered solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements
  • Perform necessary engineering calculations and proper material selection to satisfy the required design functionality. Coordinate any structural and/or finite element analysis that need to be performed for assessing the functionality of the tools designed
  • Coordinate the development of part drawings, including CAD drawings, through other designers, internal or out-sourced, to comprehensively manage the complete design of the tools that are assigned
  • Work effectively to project budgets and timelines, with constant awareness to design within the project budget constraints
  • Work closely with customer engineer and/or designer on design changes to improve manufacturability, maintainability and serviceability of equipment
  • Verify the completeness and the accuracy of the CAD model and data before final release of the drawings for purchasing or fabrication and before final storage of the data for future retrieval, with significant prior expertise and experience in checking detail drawings for the manufacturing tooling industry
  • Possess general awareness of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) concepts and its application in manufacturing and assembly
  • Be knowledgeable about the FMEA, 8-D and structural analysis (FEA) performed on the tools and/or the process stations using the tool(s) assigned
  • Required to be knowledgeable using Creo or UG/NX for surfacing. Preference will be given to candidates with Autoform experience


  • Bachelor of Applied Science or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent from a recognized University is preferred or an Associate Degree/Engineering Diploma, preferably with a specialization in design and drafting, from a recognized Community College or equivalent experience as assessed by the Hiring Manager
  • 3 - 5 years experience working as a Tool & Die Designer (stamping), but open to less years
  • Demonstrated surfacing experience using Creo or UG/NX
  • Successful candidate will have knowledge/experience with designing of metal stampings
  • Direct experience and demonstrated capabilities in concepting/designing in 3D, and 2D detailing for customized special purpose machinery, tooling and/or dies
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment including following tools and dies during the fabrication, build, installation and commissioning phases of the project
  • Ability to work with others, including peers and personnel in other departments
