Job Description

On behalf of our civil infrastructure and operation client, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Bridge Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for dealing with all bridge related matters that arise during the design / construction phases of the P3 Bridge project. Reporting to the Senior Director Bridges & Roads, you will review and comment on submissions, including design and specifications, working drawings, and field design changes. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review, comment, provide feedback and follow up with Comment Resolution, Bridging North American’s submissions, including but not limited, to Design & Specification reviews, Working Drawings, signed and sealed RFCs, Field Design changes, Notice of Design changes, Record Mandatory Reports, Contract Correspondences and Project Management Reports
  • Address all Bridges related requests for clarification (RFI). As needed, address the Traffic and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) related RFIs and provide technical input on these submissions
  • Attend related meetings on both sides of the border, follow up with issues on clients’ court, follow up with action items and respond back in timely manner
  • Complete site visits for compliance verification and review site investigation submittals as well as visit facilities, as needed, to oversee/witness any testing and quality assurance
  • Review and provide feedback regarding Owner Engineer (OE) submissions related to Bridge and other civil works including but not limited to geotechnical improvement works, utility impacts, legal and ROW issues
  • Assist in the coordination work with other client disciplines (Roadway, Utilities, Plazas, ITS) for any bridge related work
  • Assist in the preparation of bridge related progress reports
  • Review and provide engineering input regarding design submissions to client/OE quality teams for all bridge related matters
  • Provide input, including cost reduction or containment strategies, to clients’ financial team for any payment submissions by OE, MDOT, and other contractors

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural major)
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng or PE)
  • Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering an asset
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in bridge design, or an equivalent combination of work experience
  • Experience with public-private partnership (P3) and complex projects
  • Experience working with Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise with design and construction of bridge structures
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in MS Office
  • Understanding contract language and construction terminology
  • Familiarity with CHBDC, MTO and AASHTO Bridge Design and Construction standards
  • Familiarity with bridge engineering design software such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, midas, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Personnel Screening/ Security Clearance
  • Ability to travel within Ontario and Michigan
