Job Description

On behalf of our civil infrastructure and operation client, we are currently recruiting for a Civil Engineer (Rail & Road) to join their team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Providing engineering input and assisting the Senior Director with the civil work associated with grade separation structures, at-grade crossing for railroads and roadways associated with the design/construction phases
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the large number of stakeholders on this high-profile infrastructure project
  • Review, comment, provide feedback and follow up with submissions, including but not limited to Design & Specification reviews, Working Drawings, signed and sealed RFCs, Field Design changes, Notice of Design changes, Record Mandatory Reports, Contract Correspondences and Project Management Reports
  • During the project design and construction, work with Sr. Director to review and monitor contractor submittals, to ensure compliance with the project technical requirements
  • Attend railroads and Civil Design and construction meetings to ensure all requirements are fully implemented and issues are resolved
  • Address roadways & railroads grade separation structures and at-grade crossing related requests for information (RFI) and provide technical input into non-conformance reports (NCR)
  • Provide construction oversight and support contract administration verification
  • Review and provide engineering input regarding design submissions to quality teams
  • Complete site visits for compliance verification and review site investigation submittals as well as visit facilities, as needed, to oversee/witness any testing and quality assurance
  • Coordinate with the Senior Engineer and Civil Structure Engineer regarding the overlapping geometry
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports
  • Work with project Independent Certifier on providing status updates and reporting on work progress
  • Provide input to the financial team regarding invoices
  • Provide, input, including cost reduction or containment strategies to the financial team for any payment submissions
  • Provide input to the scheduling team in respect to regular project schedule updates and reporting
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • University Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Ontario or P.E. in Michigan
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience on railroad and roadway construction and working with railroad companies
  • Experience with P3 model and complex projects considered to be an asset
  • Familiar with AREMA Manual requirements for grad separation structures and at-grade crossings
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Understanding of contract language and construction terminology
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microstation, Civil 3D and structural software an asset
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Personnel Screening/ Security Clearance
  • Ability to travel within Ontario and Michigan; possess valid class G driver’s license
  • Ability to manage multiple issues concurrently
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally communicate orally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail
  • Well-rounded knowledge and execution of relationship management skills/strategies
  • Possesses strong negotiation, problem-solving and analytical skills
