Workplace Improvements

Improving a problematic workplace can lead to reduced downtime, increased operator safety, and better ergonomic working conditions. All three aspects of workplace improvements must include the analysis of task assignment. If too many tasks are assigned, downtime can result because the operator does not have sufficient means to get the work done or the work is done with a reduced level of awareness on quality. This is the same with operator safety. If the operator is too focused on trying to beat the clock, accidents are more likely to happen. Finally, ergonomic analysis always takes into account work tasks and whether they can be done in the allotted time period. If not, repetition or hurried movements can result in a permanent decrease of motor functions.

There are specific approaches to each type of workplace improvement that MEDA Limited will focus on when analyzing the current situation, please see the following for more information.

Downtime

MEDA Limited will perform an analysis of where the downtime is occurring and whether it is in direct relation to the user and their workplace tasks. The results will show where improvements must be made, whether it is to reduce the travel time in obtaining the necessary production material, reducing the workstation content, or implementing safety or ergonomic initiatives. Note: equipment downtime and delay studies can be done through our Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) initiatives.

Safety

Individual workstation risk analysis will show which areas of the workplace have the highest potential to harm the user. Accident claims and discussions with the user will also aid in identifying where improvements must be made. In Ontario, newly designed work places may need an official Pre-Start Review (PSR) to confirm the safety of the user. MEDA Limited can coordinate, manage, and implement these efforts to provide the best recommendations possible.

Ergonomics

Once an ergonomic analysis of the workplace is complete, areas involving station content, material location, and unnecessary movements can be identified and improved upon. One major time and movement saver is the implementation of the latest ergonomically approved tooling. There are very sophisticated tools now on the market that aid in reducing hand movements and save time and manual effort in material handling. Please contact MEDA Limited for more information on the types of ergonomic tooling available.

Consider MEDA Limited to review your workplaces and determine a course of action that can reduce downtime, increase operator safety, and improve ergonomics. We have trained experts ready to design new or review current workstations that are not performing up to your standards.
