Job Description

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in metallurgical engineering, materials science or related field

SKILLS:

  • 5 years’ minimum of experience in the automotive industry with experience in problem solving and quality resolution
  • Ability to use testing equipment (e.g. tensile compression tester, Wilson hardness tester, profile projector, stereoscope, MG microscope, brake fluid boiling point tester, dualscope, hydrometer, refractometer, color matching booth, etc.)
  • Proficient in MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Plan, prioritize, set goals, and manage multiple projects in a technical and business environment
  • Strong communication skills to support meetings at all levels of the company, including senior leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment
  • May be required to drive a company vehicle - Valid drivers’ license & clean driving record

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with product development engineers to develop material/process preferred practices selections to enable 10 year corrosion resistance
  • Develop laboratory tests to validate performance objectives and enable light weight technologies
  • Operate and maintain equipment in the materials lab
  • Perform a variety of testing (i.e. hardness, tensile/compression, profile, fluid boiling points, specific gravity, pH, color matching, etc.)
  • Operate a variety of specialized equipment, including x-ray machines, spectrometers, electrolytic analyzers, pH meters, centrifuges, cut off saws, mounting press, polisher, microscope, and automatic micro-hardness tester
  • Support new program launches with potential high risk analysis and tracking open issues for resolution
  • Certify and recommend proper material utilization depending on the application for new product developments or customer support and drive cost reduction programs
  • Support the tracking actions to correct customer dissatisfaction and escalate when appropriate
  • Identify common cause issues across processes and establish interim and permanent corrective actions
  • Manage data from tests and observations and manipulate that data into Excel charts/graphs for presentations
  • Maintain computerized records of experimental data
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data for feedback and key metric improvement
  • May be required to travel – domestic & international (<20%)
