Technical or High School Graduate, University education preferred
Experience Level and Skills:
Extensive related experience in construction management, engineering and job site management including previous experience as a construction manager on major projects, Project experience should include experience with projects exceeding $50M and above, and within the petrochemical industry is ideal. Skilled Tradesman extensive knowledge of construction codes and norms, union contract clauses, planning tools and job site management. Considerable experience in managing small, medium and large capital projects, as well as shutdowns in an active refinery is essential. Extensive knowledge of construction operations including engineering, construction technologies and job site management Significant experience in dealing with unions Leader in Constructability Reviews Solid safety record and possesses a “Safety First” attitude Adept at overseeing project schedules and determining more efficient / safer methods Effective team leader and negotiator Solid English communication skills, both written and verbal Strong organizational, leadership, customer service and conflict resolution skills Proficient with MS Office software (Word, Excel)
EPC/petrochemical experience a must
Position Responsibilities:
Coordinating, organizing and directing the construction activities for all areas on the various projects Organizing and directing the construction and related activities for important construction projects Monitoring, assisting and directing the senior construction representatives on the projects Contributing to the preparation of proposals, studies, contracts, schedules and estimates Preparing or supervising the preparation of the construction sections of the project instructions Monitoring activities of the various project teams to ensure that schedules and standards are met safely Approving substantial changes to project construction plans and advising the project manager, if appropriate Supervising the work of subordinates on a very large project or on multiple smaller projects Communicating priorities and resolving difficulties Maintaining/updating a complete set of ISO-certified Construction procedures for the Sarnia Operations Keeping current with labour and union information Maintaining membership in the Sarnia Construction Association Providing presentations for Business Development regarding new clients Auditing all construction sites to ensure compliance Participating in constructability reviews Leading problem-solving meetings (in-house and with clients) if construction issues arise Maintaining regular communication with senior management in order to provide input into decisions regarding construction projects Providing employees with training and development opportunities Providing input into salary recommendations and performance evaluations Making recommendations on recruiting and other Human Resources activities Selecting, managing and training senior construction personnel
