Bolt and Screw Type Fasteners
Product manufacturing data recording is becoming more important as industry standards become increasingly complex and require more quality driven processing techniques. This is one reason why there is a large push on implementing DC electric tooling into manufacturing processes. Ergonomics and higher product quality are also listed among the main motives for altering current tooling strategies.
- Air vs. DC Electric Tooling -
-
Installation:
Both types of tooling require special installation practices. For air, a pneumatic drop must be installed and the tool set to the correct air pressure in order to mimic the torque needed for installation. DC electric tooling needs a power supply as well as programming done by a certified tool expert.
-
Benefits:
DC tools provide all the fastening capabilities air tools do with the added bonus of recording torque and angle data history that can be used for station capability analysis and / or traceability. Better characteristic control, since the tools are set to a specified and monitored torque range. Built in error prevention and detection; since electric tools continuously record torque and angle values throughout the fastening process, cross threading can be detected early which will prevent the product from leaving the station damaged or loose. Also, by not meeting the torque value, defective parts are identified in station and possible containment of inherent product issues can be found prior to the continued manufacturing of multiple parts needing containment and repair, less cost is invested in the product if defects are found in station.
- Tooling Upgrade Feasibility -
In order to determine whether it is feasible to upgrade to a DC electric tool for your application(s), MEDA Limited can review your process, perform quality studies, and analyze the current tooling conditions and provide feedback as to what the next steps should be for your process. Many times, ergonomic tooling is required to aid in making a workplace more user friendly. There are many different types of ergonomic enhanced tools available, we can determine which is the most feasible and meets your process requirements.
- Tooling Upgrade Coordination -
Once a need is identified for an upgrade to DC electric tooling, MEDA Limited will make recommendations on the types of tooling your application(s) may require. We can provide quotes for different tools and coordinate the orders, delivery and installation of the tools you choose.
RTV Sealant
RTV is an adhesion material that seals a compartment from contaminants, moisture, mixing of fluid types, etc. In many applications, RTV sealants have replaced the need for gaskets since they can easily conform to any product profile, reducing the cost of high tolerance specification gaskets.
RTV sealants can be applied manually or by using an automated system. With an automated approach, high tech detection systems, such as vision systems, are a necessity because of their ability to monitor continuous machine capability, ensuring a quality outcome. Vision systems are a method of ensuring that the correct RTV bead path is applied. These systems give the "buy off" for the machine. If the detection system requirements are not met then the applied RTV is considered defective.
Being able to detect the RTV bead patterns and size prior to the product leaving the station is an excellent method of reducing the repair time and ensuring the problems are fixed prior to manufacturing any more defective parts.
MEDA Limited can recommend alternate types of processes; manual or automated that can increase your quality when using RTV as a sealing agent.
